Employee Spotlight: Andrew Halliday CIC, CRM
The Halliday name is very familiar around Ocean City, NJ. With Halliday-Leonard General Contractors, Halliday Architects, and Kevin, Patrick, & Colin Halliday all well known Ocean City realtors, just to name a few. Even the agency’s roots include the Halliday name.
But how much do you know about Andrew Halliday? Andy is the Sales Manager at McMahon Insurance Agency, specializing in insurance programs for midsize and large businesses. Andrew is a Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Certified Workers Compensation Advisor (CWCA) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). Raised in Ocean City, Andrew is active in the community currently serving on the Board of Trustees at the Ocean City Tabernacle and for Gilda’s Club South Jersey.
We spent some time getting to know Andrew more, and here’s what we found out:
1. What is your proudest moment at McMahon Insurance Agency?
Andrew: My proudest moment was attaining the designation of Certified Risk Manager (CRM). The designation was the culmination of vigorous classroom work followed by challenging testing. Achieving the designation was very self satisfying, however, the accomplishment actually reflects the steps our sales team strives for in identifying our client’s risk, analyzing and assessing potential loss situations, controlling and minimizing losses, providing the best possible insurance solutions, and assisting clients in managing the insurance piece of their business.
2. What are 3 words to describe McMahon Insurance Agency?
Andrew: I’d say, Family, Focus, and Community.
Family – Obviously our agency is chock full of McMahons, however, my family’s relationship with the McMahons date back to 1982 when Bill McMahon bought my dad’s agency, Chattin- Halliday Insurance. Since then, we have enjoyed unbelievable growth in personal and commercial business. Along the way, many highs and some lows in life, but the graph always moves in right direction due to the fact that the McMahon Family treats every employee with the respect and dignity given to a “family” member.
Focus – I have worked at the Agency for 28 years and have witnessed a daily focus on anticipating client needs and exceeding client expectations. 28 years is a lot of days. And that focus has never changed as Bill has passed the torch to his children.
Community – I am encouraged to participate in our local Ocean City Community as well as other communities in South Jersey. I see other staff members, and particularly the McMahon family, serve our community in impactful ways and do so quietly, without fanfare or personal agenda. It has been ingrained over 27 years to “give back as though no one is watching”.
3. What is the favorite part about working for McMahon Insurance Agency?
Andrew: My favorite part of working at the McMahon Agency is the problem solving aspect involved in commercial insurance. Every business is unique, kind of like a “jigsaw puzzle”. I would contend that it is impossible to properly insure a business through a website platform questionnaire. I enjoy the challenge and motivation in making sure all aspects of someone’s business are properly attended, that we don’t take shortcuts, and that coverage and pricing all fit together based on the business’ needs.
4. Tell us something about your family that might surprise us.
Andrew: I have a 35 year old son, a 34 year old daughter with two sons of her own, and a nine year old attending the third grade in the primary school. The nine year old is another motivator to aggressively approach my career.
5. Do you have a favorite author or quote?
Andrew: My favorite quote is “ Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans” by John Lennon.
6. What do you do for fun?
Andrew: For fun I enjoy the Ocean City Boardwalk (particularly the sights, sounds, and smells on a busy summer night), the beach, and fishing in the Bay and ocean front. Having moved from Ocean City for 12 years after graduating from college, I came to truly appreciate all that America’s Greatest Family Resort has to offer.
