Getting Organized!

January 6, 2017

Most likely your house will not be featured on the show Hoarders, but many people could use a bit more organization in their lives. One of the best ways to start is with a Home Inventory. A home inventory can keep track of everything in your household.

Next, when it comes to your important documents, store digital copies in your McMahon Online portal. If you need copies of your Auto IDs, policies, valuations, etc., use McMahon Online for easy access anywhere, anytime.

Lastly, talk to us about any big-ticket items such as jewelry or electronics. With these big items comes the question of whether or not you should insure them.

Here are some steps you can use to help build your home inventory.

  • Step 1: Walk Through Your Property. Begin with photos of the outside of your home. Take pictures from all sides and be sure to include any exterior structures- garage, tool shed, etc.
  • Step 2: Compile a list of items. In the event that you need to file a claim your itemized list will be extremely helpful. Take photos in every room- even inside closets and the interior of your garage or off-site storage unit. Once you set up your rooms, you’ll be ready to add your belongings and details.
  • Step 3: Find receipts, valuations, and proof of value. If you’re adding high-value items- jewelry, antiques, artwork, collectibles, gear- to your inventory remember to upload receipts and any appraisal forms or other proof of value.
